I intended to post sooner after the first meeting but got caught up in the world of Boulder Startup Marketing, helping startups market their businesses. The above photo is, as far as I know, the only documentation of our first meetup but I think it was a great success. We had probably 35 people there ranging from one person startups still conceptualizing their business to marketers working for some of the bigger startups in Boulder.

We talked about PPC, viral marketing, game mechanics, content creation, and much more. Luckily marketing a startup is much more than can be discussed in 1-2 hours and I am pleased to say that a monthly meeting seems to be in order. People who attended seemed excited to do another one, and people who missed the meeting where feeling like they had missed out. Initially I wanted it on a regimented schedule however the way I set it up would have put the next meeting on the 4th of July, not the best date for a meetup unless it is about grilling and fireworks.

I am still working on the logistics for the next meeting. We can do it at Graphicly again and maybe setup the room better, or if someone can volunteer a better space I am completely open to that idea as well. I am looking at July 11 or somewhere around there…

I will update again with more details when things are more solified, in the meantime if anyone has ideas, suggestions, criticisms, etc. please hit me up on twitter: @jefflesser

Yesterday Boulder Startup Week hosted an event at Atlas where the Boulder Startup community came out in a large number to discuss the challenges of marketing a startup with Natty Zola of Everlater and Casey Schorr of SwagLove. The discussion was great with questions coming from the audience and the founders. It is clear that there is a vibrant startup community in Boulder with a knack and hunger for getting their products marketed creatively. The sense that the majority of the attendees walked out of Atlas with a yearning for more knowledge and discussion was palpable.
Where there is demand, there will be supply. So together, as the Boulder startup community, let’s meet once a month to discuss matters related to marketing our startups. The first meetup will be held on Monday, June 6th at 6pm @ Graphicly.

The structure of this is open to the participants however we will likely start with a Marketing Monday type of scheduling. Similar to First Friday, an art walk in Denver on the first friday of every month, we will hold our gathering on the first Monday of every month.
For this meetup we have set up a Plancast Event and a Facebook Event to help remind you! RSVP is not necessary but it’s best for organization and other attendees if you do.
PS: We are in the process of setting up a resources page as well as a members page so that everyone involved can easily get to know each other and their roles in our startup community along with a collective resource section. More on that to come.
